Donate a BedWe have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.

Henry County Fair!!

ANNOUNCEMENT - 06/13/07! Change of Direction

We have chosen to stay opened, but we will be going a different route than what was before. We will be concentrating on a spay/neuter program for Henry County. We need to think of the details and put it all together, but the future will be a much different one. Changes will slowly be made to the website as things come together. We will also maintain a small presence in rescue work for neglected animals.

We have had many supporters over the years and we would like to acknowledge that without them, we never would have lasted this long or done so much good. We thank each and every one of you.

Please stay tuned for updated information as we progress in a new way for the community in which we have survived for so long.

Hoofstock laws and other farm animals

It is illegal for any humane society in the state of Tennessee to go onto the property of farmstock abuse cases and look into allegations of animal cruelty without permission first. Within Henry County this is the job of the Henry County Extension Service located at:

1120 Tyson Avenue
Paris, TN 38242-0188
(731) 642-2941 - Phone

Tax Status: We are a permanent 501(c)(3) facility. Any and all donations can be used as a tax deduction for your records. Tax I.D. #780117615.

Donations - If you are looking for an easy way to donate, just look for our adoption barrels at Mineral Wells Animal Clinic, Lakeway Animal Clinic, Kroger's, IGA going out towards the lake, and the E.W. James on the west side of town. You can drop food items, cleaning supplies, and other pet supplies in the barrels for your convenience. Thank you to those that have so generously donated already!

We are a no kill organization and try every means available to find good homes for the animals housed here. Some of these have serious medical issues or behavior issues and the kindest thing to do is humane euthanization. Many can get better with a little vet care and TLC. There's just no reason we can't make the world a little better for our friends. This is one reason donations are so important. You may donate using our PayPal option near the bottom of the page. You can also send check and money order donations to:

Image hosting by Photobucket The HCHS is listed through Igive.com. This is a website with lots of large name stores such as Barnes and Nobles, Oriental Trading Co., and smaller not so commonly known stores who have all agreed to have a portion of all purchases go to the group of choice by the member who signs up for this free shopping adventure. When you purchase online from one of the Igive.com sponsored stores you will earn a percentage that will build in a special Igive account. The proceeds will then be mailed out to the organization of choice. Take a look, register, choose the Henry Co. Humane Soc. from the list of organizations, and shop!

Tip of the Week - 06/08/08

Early Summer Tips

Holy Cow! The hot weather has already hammered us! It’s also taking its toll on the animals. We need to make sure we provide what’s necessary to keep our pets comfortable. Not only is just the right thing to do providing our pets with adequate housing, along with FRESH water and food, but also it’s the law. If you don’t have adequate housing for your outdoor animals you could be subject to animal cruelty penalties.

Outdoor animals need a place to get out of the blazing sun and intermittent summer storms. Nothing needs to be fancy and it doesn’t need to be expensive, but it does need to be.

Along with adequate cover, water very quickly becomes stagnant and green with mold. Water needs to be checked daily and changed at least every other day before the molds and algae begin to form. Water sitting in the sun gets very warm, you’re your pet will appreciate you refreshing with cool water.

Dogs and cats aren’t the only ones who appreciate shelter from the blazing sun and fresh, cool water, but rabbits, chickens, hoof stock, and any other animal who spends its time outdoors will take the “feel-good” of the shade over the sun any day.

Mission Statement

The Henry County Humane Society has been organized to be a network of individuals whose purpose is to prevent cruelty, abuse, and neglect of animals and to promote awareness of animal issues. The Humane Society will strive to assure that the animals' interest are guaranteed by society through ongoing campaigns directed to the public to raise interest, promote responsible pet care, stress the importance of spaying and neutering your pets and to assure the animals that we share our world with a more kind and safer future.

Animals have taught us loyalty, patience, trust, love, and a respect for all nature. Nature survived millions of years before mankind. Mankind will not survive without the natural environment. There is a very delicate balance between the animals, nature, and the human factor---

Let us learn to be gentle.
